ABOUT THE POCKET
Homes
Most homes in the Pocket were built between the 1970s and the 1990s, with single-story ranch houses on the earlier streets and two-story homes on the later ones. Many streets curve or end in cul-de-sacs, and lots tend to be larger than in the older neighborhoods closer to downtown. Larger homes line Pocket Road and Riverside Boulevard along the levee, and some newer infill sits on former farm parcels. Check each listing for lot size and year built.
Getting Around
Interstate 5 runs along the east side of the Pocket, with interchanges at Pocket Road and Florin Road, and downtown is about ten to fifteen minutes north by car. Pocket Road, Windbridge Drive and Rush River Drive are the main streets inside the neighborhood, and Greenhaven Drive connects north to Florin Road. SacRT buses run on Pocket Road and Windbridge Drive. There is no light rail in the Pocket.
Parks, Shops and Daily Life
Garcia Bend Park sits on the Sacramento River with a boat launch, picnic areas, ball fields and a playground, and the Sacramento River Parkway trail runs along the top of the levee. Smaller parks are spread through the neighborhood, and Genevieve Didion K-8 and John F. Kennedy High School are inside it. The Promenade shopping center near Pocket Road has a grocery store, restaurants and services, with more shops along Florin Road to the north.
Sub-areas and Nearby
The Pocket covers the southern and western part of the Pocket-Greenhaven area, closest to the river bend. Greenhaven lies directly north and has its own page. Meadowview sits across Interstate 5 to the east, Land Park and the Little Pocket are to the north along Riverside Boulevard, and Freeport and farmland lie south of the city limit.
